when you type a domain name in your browser that you wish to connect to, your application must first convert it to an IP address that it will use to connect to.The way these hostnames are resolved to their mapped IP address is called Domain Name Resolution. On almost all operating systems whether they be Apple, Linux, Unix, Netware, or Windows the majority of resolutions from domain names to IP addresses are done through a procedure called DNS. DNS stands for Domain Name System and is the standard domain name resolution service used on the Internet , There is another way to resolve domain names without using the Domain Name System, and that is by using your HOSTS file. Almost every operating system that communicates via TCP/IP, the standard of communication on the Internet, has a file called the HOSTS file. This file allows you to create mappings between domain names and IP addresses Another way to think of a hosts file is as an address translator and redirector.

@Mike thanks.
What about the "write protection" option that existed before in the previous version as some applications known to remove the "read only" attribute and reset the hosts file to it’s original state.
Please restore this option.
@adam
Type what you want to find in the host box and press F3.
Hi,
Thanks for the efforts.
Feature request: please add search function.
if someone translate it to spanish we can add
donde consigo la traducion en español
Noted it down , Thank you
Hello, first: thank you for the tools!
Also I would like to request a feature.
I have multiple (long) lists of host, and it would be great if this tool could also handle lists.
My idea is that the functionality of the "examples" could be extended to not only add, but also remove a list of hosts.
Regarding the GUI:
The names of the list would have tick-boxes, upon checking the box the hosts in the list were added, and upon unchecking, removed.
And at program-start, it could detect "currently selected" lists when opening an unknown file by comparing the opened hosts file to the lists (of course with an option to disable, to save startup-time)
Bonus, if it could handle overlapping lists somehow, but of course this would make thing more complicate.
(Completely different version: remake the GUI to support tree-like view, like:
-group1
host1
host2
-group2
-sub-group1
host3
-sub-group2
host4
)
I hope my wording is clear 😀

Would be nice to change the default entry from “facebook . com” to whatever, as I could use this in a client install of a web app, to add server ip only. This way I wouldn’t have to keep changing the default pointer.
Just an idea?
coming soon
Good tools, but why not update them so long?
Than you Nanlon but BlueLife Hosts Editor v1.2 has already Simplified Chinese language support is this fixed one ?
